Directors Statement: Scatterbrain was a turning point for my career as a filmmaker. The story is inspired by the social climate we are currently facing. Today's world is overloaded with news and its whiplash-like reporting from all media outlets. The effects of media in today's age have created a mass spread of paranoia that affects all ages in society. You turn on the news and there is always something new to be afraid of. The world feels so overbearing sometimes that all we can do is just completely shut down and panic. Besides the physical reaction, we might have to bear with overwhelming news, emotionally sometimes we feel like we are in control so we convince ourselves of little white lies. Another big inspiration for my film is my father. He has been a musician for thirty years and has been in a band for twenty-five years. A few years ago I made a music video for them for a new single that was about aliens living among humans trying to understand what it feels like to be human. It's a song about confusion and dread for the human lifestyle. I shot the music video in black and white, creating heavy noir lighting. Although a fun project at the time, what I really wanted was to make that experience feel real. After listening to the song over and over, the idea for Scatterbrain was born.
